The e-Maritime Platform

The interrelationships between the main e-Maritime components is shown in
the following diagram.

A central strategy is the adoption of Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) to support functional re-usability and technology independence. Services are well defined pieces of re-usable functionality exposed through technology independent interfaces.

e-Maritime Services: Interoperable software which translates directly from the e-Maritime Framework. e-Maritime Services are elementary pieces of software used as the building blocks of e-Maritime Applications

The next generation e-Maritime infrastructure will provide not only technological services, including connectivity and security, but also shared information and knowledge, thus making it easier to participate or foster digital inclusion for maritime participants (e.g. seafarers) and manage collaboration between public and private parties.

The e-Maritime Applications

The e-Maritime Applications consist of software components and data feeds that perform meaningful functions in the area of Maritime Transport. Reference e-Maritime Applications will be developed as follows:

1. Improved Administration Domain Applications:

a. e-Maritime Single Windows;
b. Integrated Maritime Surveillance for cargo and ship movements facilitating EU
and national administrations to collaborate in safety, security and
environmental risk management.

2. Improved Business Domain Applications:

a. Improved Shipping Operations;
b. Improved Port Operations;
c. Integration into Logistic chains;
d. Promotion of seafaring profession.
